A little bit about me

Contented Canines is run by Carole Valentine. Carole has always loved animals, especially dogs and horses, and while at university developed a keen interest in their behaviour. She has a Masters Degree in Applied Animal Behaviour and Welfare from Edinburgh University and her dissertation examined the training of dogs used for landmine detection. She also has a PhD in animal welfare and veterinary ethics. As well as holding several voluntary animal roles, Carole was formerly a Training and Behaviour Advisor for the UK's largest dog welfare charity so has experience of handling and training a wide variety of challenging dogs and successfully supporting the rehabilitation of many dogs who are now settled in their new homes. She is a full member of the Professional Association of Canine Trainers, a candidate member of the Fellowship of Animal Behaviour Clinicians, a provisional member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and a supporter member of the Equine Behaviour Affiliation - all organisations which uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical training. She is passionate about improving dog welfare and helping dog owners better understand their dogs' behaviour in order to live happier lives with their canine companions. Her current animal family consists of a working cocker spaniel, a Welsh Section D mare and 2 guinea pigs.
